The Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE) certification is one of the most respected credentials in network engineering and administration today. A CCIE is an individual certified by Cisco Systems who has demonstrated their expertise in designing, building, configuring and troubleshooting complex networks using various hardware and software technologies from Cisco Systems. The title “CCIE” indicates that an individual has achieved mastery of designing, deploying and maintaining large scale networks utilizing various products from Cisco Systems including routers, switches, firewalls etc. 

As such, many potential employers look favorably upon those who hold this certification since they have demonstrated expertise in designing, building, deploying and managing complex networks that require high availability and performance goals. However, many people may not know exactly what type of tasks a CCIE performs day-to-day once hired at an organization or company.

In order to become a Certified Internetworking Expert (CCIE), individuals must first pass several exams administered by Cisco Systems which are designed to test one’s technical knowledge as well as their ability to think critically about network designs and implementations. After successfully passing these exams individuals must then complete an eight hour written qualification lab as well as participate in two separate daylong practical exams which cover internetwork architectures, Routing Protocols, Layer 2 Technologies, IP Services, Quality Of Service (QoS), Security Concepts etc.  

Once someone has earned their CCIE certification they typically go on to design complex private networks for companies such as banks, communications providers etc . They also advise clients on how best use existing technologies while simultaneously planning out new additions such as voice over IP systems or Wi-Fi services. Additionally, many certified experts specialize further by concentrating specifically on Data Center designs allowing them gain even more recognition within their field. 

Lastly, many former CCIEs often go on teach networking classes at universities around world or pursue careers consulting other organizations.

In general terms, a person holding a CCIE certification will be responsible for designing or creating networks from scratch using routed protocols such as Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) or Open Shortest Path First (OSPF). He or she will also be involved with maintaining existing networks by performing regular maintenance activities such as patching router firmware versions or upgrading switching hardware components in order to stay up-to-date on modern technologies and standards in networking technology. In addition, part of their role may include troubleshooting any issues that may arise within their assigned networks such as identifying failing hardware components or tracking down misconfigured settings that are causing disruptions within their systems. 

Moreover, someone certified as a CCIE would also need to stay abreast on new trends related to networking technologies since environments change rapidly due to continual improvement cycles associated with software applications running over large public networks like internet service providers (ISPs). As such, he/she should always have ongoing training-related activities assigned for keeping up with new advancements that could benefit their employer’s current network configurations such as virtualization technologies being deployed within data centers across multiple geographic locations around the world through cloud computing platforms like Amazon Web Services (AWS).

To sum up then, while there are many different tasks associated with holding a Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE) certification no two roles will be identified depending upon where their employer has placed them within their organization but most involve tasks related to designing/building/maintaining/and troubleshooting complex routed/switched data communication networks.
